This new Jump Seat Safety Swap is designed to make your 2014-2018 Silverado or Sierra safer for the center front passenger. From this point on we will refer to just Silverado, but it will refer to Both General Motors' Silverado and Sierra Pickup Trucks.

So is the middle Jump Seat in your Silverado pickup truck a "Safety Compromise"? The 2014-2018 Silverado has the K2XX platform from GM and the center jump seat still included a simple lap-only seat belt, this jump seat was built for convenience and not crash protection. The 2019-2026 Silverado with the T1XX Platform finally included the tried and true, 3 point seat belt for better safety. Here are photos of each of the Jump Seats with their seat belts.

The single lap-only seat belt hasn't been available in all seating positions including both fronts and all 3 seating positions on the rear seat since 2007. The last one to be mandated was the center rear. But when the center jump seat became popular, to fit that 3rd person in the front row, lap-only seat belts continued to be used.

Lap-only Seat Belt Hazards

seat belt syndrome or seat belt jackknifing. It is a dangerous, sometimes fatal, phenomenon occurring during frontal collisions where the passenger's body bends sharply over a lap-only seat belt. Since the passenger is in the front center seat and if passenger is tall enough, their head can hit the dash....so you do the math.

The main reason for Designing this 2014-2018 Silverado 3-point Seat belt Jump Seat Safety Kit was due to an old friend receiving a traumatic brain injury. He had a lap-only seat belt on and sitting in the middle jump seat in the accident.

Now many 2014-2018 Silverado Trucks are till on the job, Either for personal use or Business  use. Those who own fleet vehicles moving employees to and from the Job Site. To maximize seating area and seat that one employee in that center front jump seat. You need to make that center front passenger safe with a 3-point seat belt.

During our jump seat swap testing. we used a 2014 Silverado with a gray cloth interior. We took many photos on the install. Surprisingly a black  jump seat in the center looked very good, since the Silverado dash has many black highlights. At this time, Black Cloth is the only color available, either with upper and lower storage or with just upper storage.

Lap-belts as seen below are not safe for the upper body.
