What is happening here?
General Motors has strives to make 3rd row seating easy to remove for the vehicle owners convenience. Unfortunately thieves are taking advantage of this quick removal by stealing third row seating and selling it on Craigslist. In September 2013 a Chevy dealership had over $48,000 worth of third row seating stolen from the lot overnight. The news report & video can be seen here. Other cases have been reported from across the country as well. It's a major problem that has gone under the radar for years now.
The models & years at higher risk are listed below.
- Chevy: Tahoe, Suburban
- GMC: Yukon, Yukon XL 1500, Yukon XL 2500
- Cadillac: Escalade, Escalade ESV
- Years: 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014
Preventing Theft & Replacing Seats
GM has addressed this issue with the release of the 2015 SUV line. The new SUVs feature third row seating that folds down flat as opposed to seating that can be removed entirely. If you're planning on trading in your car soon you don't have much to worry about, but if you love your SUV there's only one option. Your best option is to purchase a lock for your third row seating from xtralock.com. Affordable replacement seating can be found on our website here. You will save about $1500-2000 over dealership cost by purchasing through us.
